Courtyard and  Riverside

     Wildflower Meadow

rv3.jpg

There is a small courtyard in front of the house, this is enclosed for privacy and is only for the use of the apartment guests.  The courtyard has recliners and a table and is an ideal place to have your morning croissants and coffee, or to relax in the evening with a glass of wine.

We also  own a large piece of land at the edge of the River Orbieu just ten minutes walk from the apartment - or two minutes drive if it's too hot to walk - there is parking space there. Over Autumn and Winter 2020 and Spring 2021 we cleared this land of trees and bushes so that the grasses and wild flowers could return and grow more freely, we continue to re wild this land with the aim of it eventually being  a  wildflower meadow. Many years ago this was three vegetable gardens, the river has reclaimed some, but there is still a very large area left  and this is private and for the use of our gite guests only.   We have planted some fruit trees to join the two quince, several cherries and an apricot that were already established, so there are now more than 20 fruit trees; the blossom in the Spring will be magnificent.

We are keeping a small part of the area mowed and recliners  are  provided so that you can sun bathe or sit and picnic in the shade of a tree, enjoying the amazing variety of wild flowers in this region and listening to the birdsong - because of the proximity of the river we have so many bird visitors to the garden -
we have seen many unusual birds, including an eagle. Please feel free to wander and enjoy  the whole area, but you are not allowed, by French law, to barbque in the gardens or to light any type of fire, it is so hot and dry it would be an extreme hazard to do so.

NB The steps down to the garden are steep concrete steps, we are in our 70's and it proves no problem to us but if you have a mobility problem you may not be able to use them.

The following trees, shrubs, climbers and flowers can be found in the garden and meadow, perhaps you can identify more? Those asterisked have been planted by us, the rest are either wild or are from the remnants of the old flower garden that fronted onto the ancient potagers (vegetable gardens).
