Maison
des Fleurs

Maison des Fleurs is an 18th Century artisan's stone cottage lovingly restored, using traditional methods & materials, complete with exposed beams, wood burning stove and sunny balcony where you can sit with a glass of wine and watch village life go by. The cottage is furnished with French antiques but, although an ancient cottage with charm and character, it has all modern amenities, including wi fi. For the few cooler months, the cottage has electric radiators which keep it very cosy, making it not only a perfect holiday cottage, but also an ideal property for those house hunting in this beautiful region.
Maison des Fleurs is situated in the wine making village of Thezan des Corbieres which has all the necesary amenities for a holiday maker, a Grocery shop, a Pizzeria/Bar, a Bar/Restaurant and a Tabac/Post Office. It is situated only 16 miles from a wide selection of beaches and just 4 miles from a huge river at St Laurent de la Cabrerisse where you can experience 'wild swimming'. The World Heritage Sites of Carcassonne & the Canal du Midi are just 28 & 13 miles away. It is the ideal holiday location and is available all year round.
Maison des Fleurs is just 5 miles from our new gite Appartement de Roses et de Vignes which is in the nearby village of Ferrals les Corbieres.

Appartement de Roses et de Vignes

Situated in a Wine Makers Domaine, built in 1880, when the wine industry boomed in the Corbieres, the Apartment has been restored to its original late 19th century glory. It has a gorgeous Juliet balcony, exposed beams, tiled floors and a feature wood burner - there is also air conditioning in the bedroom for the summer months and, of course, there is wi fi.
The Apartment has a private little courtyard in the front of the house where you can relax in the sun, plus a huge beautiful garden, only ten minutes walk from the house, where you can lounge amidst the apricot, olive, quince and cherry trees in front of a wild flower meadow next to the river.
Appartement de Roses et de Vignes is also in a wine making village, that of Ferrals les Corbieres. This is a bustling and friendly village of 1200 inhabitants and this village too provides all the amenities necessary for a holiday maker - a Bank/Post Office, Grocery Shop, Tabac, 2 Hairdressers, a Beauty Salon and a Bar/Restaurant plus a Michelin listed Restaurant situated in a Chateau.
The Apartment is just 9 miles from a river where you can experience 'wild swimming' and is exactly 35 minutes from a choice of beaches and the Mediterranean. It is 5 miles from our other gite, Maison des Fleurs.

N.B. Dogs are very welcome in both gites.
An Introduction
to the
Locations & Amenities
Thezan des Corbieres and Ferrals les Corbieres are both wine making villages, their history goes back to Roman times when they were settled to provide wine to slake the thirst of Rome. They are situated just 35 minutes drive from the coast and in the heart of the historic Corbieres in the Languedoc (now called Occitanie). There are many excellent, unspoilt beaches (44 in total) offering child friendly activities and employing lifeguards plus amenities such as windsurfing, sailing, diving and kite surfing on offer and Theme Parks of all different types.
There are thirteen lakes and/or rivers nearby, some only ten minutes away, none more than an hours drive, all are ideal for 'wild' swimming and rafting and, of course, fishing - the nearby Canal du Midi offers boating or just a tranquil walk or bike ride along its banks.
The Corbieres is Cathar country and the remains of their fortresses can still be visited - there are also many ancient Abbeys, such as Fontfroide and Lagrasse both only 11 miles away, plus the area abounds in chateaux. There is also the World Heritage site of Carcassonne where you can walk around La Cite and go back in time; during the summer months you can also watch a joust.

Renowned for its gourmet food, this area offers regional specialities such as cassoulet, it also has a wide variety of sea food. Spectacular fruit, most of it grown locally, is available, very inexpensively. Sun-drenched peaches and nectarines abound and the markets are an illustration of the bounty on offer. Purple aubergines, huge garlics, tomatoes of all shapes, sizes and colour, peppers and onions all jostle on the tables next to huge vats of local olives. You can eat out to suit all pockets, a typical 3 course lunch, including local wine is 13 euros. Both markets and supermarkets offer organic produce in abundance - here it is labelled 'bio'.
